Hey everyone, I need some help putting up some campaign signs–like this one that one of my great volunteers, Mark, put up outside his home and at another location in the desert:
We need to put them in as many yards as possible throughout Assembly District 42! Fill out one of the contact forms if you can help!
On Monday, April 23, 2018 the Yucaipa City Council considered whether or not Yucaipa would join with other cities in California in filing an amicus brief in support of the federal lawsuit against California over SB 54. Yucaipa City Hall was filled to overflowing with people, some local, many not, advocating for joining with the federal lawsuit and with those opposing doing so.
I was the last person to make a public comment, and I chose to draw attention to the larger issues of foreign policy that are seldom addressed in discussions about immigrants and refugees. To hear the recording of the council meeting and my comments, go to: http://www.yucaipa.org/wp-content/uploads/city_council/audio/04232018.mp3 My two minutes start at 1:40.
Just ordered some campaign signs and am waiting for them to be printed–now I need some people to help me put them up!
In this letter to the editor, I listed several issues I am promoting in my campaign, focusing particularly on healthcare in this one. I am using the date on which it was originally published in this post.
Single Payer Healthcare would save us $37 billion annually and cover everyone for everything!
More people file bankruptcy in this country for medical bills than for any other reason. Healthcare reform is very much needed in order to rein in skyrocketing costs and offer services to everyone in need of medical care.
A bill was introduced in the state legislature last year, SB 562, the Healthy California Act, which was passed by the State Senate, but stalled in the Assembly because the Speaker of the Assembly placed it in the Rules Committee and wouldn’t allow it to come to the floor for a vote in last year’s legislative session.
SB 562 is a Single Payer bill which corrects the core problem of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, by taking the insurance companies and pharmaceuticals out of the middle of healthcare. If you believe like I do that health care is a human right, this bill needs our support; we must put pressure on the Speaker, Anthony Rendon, to let the bill onto the floor so it may be amended and put to a vote.
We can not only cover everyone for everything, do away with co-pays and deductibles, but save approximately $37 billion annually by switching to Single Payer healthcare by passing the Healthy California Act. Why? Because Single Payer would be similar to Medicare (a single payer system), which operates on around a 3% overhead vs. around a 26% overhead for insurance companies. This is because in a for-profit healthcare system, tens of millions of dollars go to CEO salaries and shareholder payouts every year, allowing insurance companies and pharmaceuticals to make millions of dollars by profiteering off patients’ suffering and death.
This is not only cruel and inhumane, but predatory, and needs to be replaced by a system which covers everyone, regardless of age or health, and does not profit off people’s illness. What is needed is a shift in priorities in government so that people’s needs, not corporate greed, come first.
SB 562, the Single Payer healthcare bill that we are still trying to fight for has run into new opposition by the Democrats in Sacramento. A really good analysis of why it does not work to hope that progressive Democrats will save us on Single Payer healthcare. https://www.counterpunch.org/2017/06/27/california-scheming-democrats-betray-single-payer-again/
I’m very pleased to announce that my campaign has received the endorsement of the Peace and Freedom Party!
I just finished my candidacy filing this week, getting in all the paperwork for the primary!! Now I need some help canvassing and getting out some literature! Please contact me if you can help canvass, endorse, or donate to my campaign. This is a grassroots candidacy, non-reliant on corporate support, so I need help from real people!
